A sick baby! This is an element of motherhood that no one can prepare you for, no matter how many books you read and how many birthing classes you go to! It doesn't matter how much advice seasoned mother's give you, when it's your baby that's sick, there is a part of you that is sick too, your heart. Last week Millie had quite a rough week which means Mama had a rough week too. Here is how our week went:
Monday: She had an okay day but didn't seem to have as much energy as usual. She loved playing and was going about normal business.
Tuesday: She slept just about all day. Even fell asleep on the floor of the play room at the babysitters! (Anyone that knows Millie as her "normal" self, knows that she doesn't just lay down on the floor to take a snooze!) She was running a fever in the evening between 101 and 103. Call the doc to make an appt for the morning.
Wednesday:Doc appt in the morning, he said she had an ear infection. He didn't get too good of a look because she did not like the idea of someone poking in her ears and throat. He prescribe amoxicillin. She spent the day at home cuddling with Daddy and napped most of the day. Still a slight fever.
Thursday: Spent the day at home with Nan-Z. Started to get a prickly rash on her belly and back along with puffy face/eyes. I called the doc when I got home from work to see if there was something we should do. They wanted to see us that night. Appt at 7:30 with the same doc that she saw the day before. She wasn't anymore fond of him this time! He did get a good look in her ear and confirmed it was an ear infection. He said the rash was not a true allergy because it was not like "hives" but more just a side effect of the meds. He switched her prescription and we were out the door. (Most people know we are bed time routine followers, and this appt was long after her bed time!) Needless to say she was not a happy camper and just wanted to go to sleep. ****This is where the longest night EVER begins! She started screaming around 8 :30 and didn't let up until about 1:30AM!!!! We tried everything from rocking, walking, music, snacks, playing with toys, watching mickey, laying down in mommy and daddy's bed, putting the pack and play in our room, NOTHING worked! Finally, mom took her upstairs around 1:45 and somehow got her to sleep. At least for a few hours! (THANK GOD FOR GRANDMOTHERS!!!!)
Friday: I was so out of it at work, but Millie seemed to perk up a little. She took long naps, but when she was awake she wanted to play. No fever. However, the rash seemed to be getting worse. As I'm reading the text messages while at work (shhhh, don't tell) I broke down! Not only was I questioning why I was at work instead of home with my sick baby, but why was she not getting any better even after the medicine change? I called the pediatrician and she reassured me that it would take at least 3 days for the first meds to get out of her system and that she may have the rash for another few days.
Saturday/Sunday: She still had a bit of a rash and was fussy off and on throughout the day. She didn't have a fever but still had the rash. I also made a discovery. TOP TWO MOLARS!!!!! Can't help but think that this little discovery could be contributing to my little girls misery!
Monday(Today): The rash seems to be mostly gone!!! Still not her "tornado" self, but I think we are on the up and up!
What a week! Like I said there isn't anything that can prepare you for the times when your kid is sick. I'm so lucky to have the people in my life that helped not just Millie, but helped me through it too! We have been so fortunate up until now to have such a healthy and happy little girl! You never realize how much you treasure your sleep until you miss it for a night!
***I will post another update in the near future about how life has changed for our little family in the last few months: a 1 year old, a walker, a working Mommy, a babysitter, etc. :)
