25 Weeks: Who is the President?

Please keep in mind as you read this, that I never post about Political Topics because I feel that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and don’t feel the need to argue over them.

However, as I was having lunch with my 6 month old daughter today the President was giving his inaugural speech in the background.  I often talk to my daughter about things in life that she has no capability of understanding yet.  Today the topic was, who is the president?  Our conversation went something like this:

“Do you see that man on TV?  He is the president of the United States, that is the country that we live in.  He is like the boss of the country.  He has to be aware of what is going on and make a lot of decisions about things.  Some of those decisions are hard ones to make and some are easy.  No matter what he decides, there are going to be people in the country that don’t agree with him, just like you might not agree that sweet potatoes are a good lunch for today.  But you know the really neat thing about living in the United States of America is that we get to pick who our president is.  One day you will be old enough to go and make a choice of who should be our president.  Now of course the person that you pick won’t always win because you are not the only person to go and vote.  You see people all over the country have the right to do the same thing you do, vote, and not everyone wants the same person to win and be the president.  However, I hope that one day when you are old enough to vote that you are polite and do so with integrity.  That means that even if the person that wins isn't who you voted for, that you will be respectful.  You don’t complain and criticize and say mean things about that person.  You need to trust that the person that was picked will do what is right for you and the rest of the citizens of the country.  You need to believe that people can work together to make things good for everyone, and you need to encourage your friends to do the same thing.  You need to think positive and know that being the President isn't an easy job.  Always remember to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly.  You can do whatever you set your mind to and be whoever you work hard to be. I’m so excited for you and love you very much!”

24 Weeks: Amazed

My little girl continues to amaze me.  How can it be that at only 24 weeks old she is holding her own bottle and trying very hard to sit up?  It is just incredible how much she has changed in such a short amount of time.  I am loving every second of being a mom and being able to watch her change and grow each day.  While I swore I would never be a stay-at-home Mom, I am living the good life right now.  I kicked and screamed and was dragging my feet about moving to PA but the fact of the matter is, if we were still living in Virginia, I would be back to work and my baby would be off at some day care somewhere.  Don't get me wrong, I'm itching to get back in the classroom and I'm anxious for the day to come to have "my kids" again.  But I am so lucky that I get to be home with Millie during this first year to see her do all her "firsts." I also love the fact that we are closer to family and my nephew gets excited when he gets to come to "Aunt Mickey's house."  It's a wonderful life.

Happy New Year!!!!!

Wow, I can't believe how fast the past 4 weeks have flown by.  My beautiful baby girl is now 5 months old and has successfully survived her first Christmas and New Year's!  :)  I have been out of commission with a nasty cough for the last week, so I apologize that I have not updated about Christmas yet!  We were very blessed this Christmas to spend time with all of our family and friends.  It is to hard to put into words all the fun that we had so this post will be mostly pictures.  (Check out the captions too!)  (There is no order to the madness, just enjoy!)
